Woman – A Poem

October 10, 2017

Carrying the weight of inequality

Fighting for equilibrium

The very fabric of society

Unseen, unrecognized, unspoken

Except sometimes for the wrong reasons

The shadow of a shadow

Celebrating your light

Woman.

Image bearer and conqueror

Daughter, sister, wife, mother

Keeping silent

Misunderstood, misused, mistaken

So fragile, so strong

And sometimes broken

Still standing, always standing

Woman.

Sick for twelve years with a disease

Hanging at the well, drinking, yet thirsty

Shamed, blamed, about to get stoned

Desperate, denied, depersonalized

Found and redeemed

Loved and recognized

He says come to Me

Woman.
