How to Pray Powerful Prayers

August 8, 2016

Did it ever happen to you, that while you were praying, you felt like God wasn’t going to answer your prayers? A feeling that, no matter how much you repent or ask for forgiveness, you ever hardly qualify? Perhaps if you were God you wouldn’t even bother with your prayers?

That is exactly what happened to me this morning. I feel like when I pray for others, even for strangers, then God cares. But when it comes to me, why would he even listen? I’m not worthy. I don’t qualify. I’m not good enough. I constantly make mistakes and miss the mark. Surely, if I prayed more… Surely, if I’d watch my mouth more… If I had less of a temper… If I was a little less me…

I think those feelings of lack are healthy. Truth is, we are not good enough on our own to please God. BUT, because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we have been justified. When God looks at us, He sees us hidden in Christ, He sees His children. He gives us free access to the Himself.

It’s a matter of faith

Yet, do we really know it? Do we really believe it? Do we, daily, choose faith over how we feel? When you choose faith, you “take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one”. The arrows of lies, those tugging at our hearts saying we aren’t good enough to pray, they lose their power over us.

We can put our foot down and say: I am justified, by the blood of Jesus. I am made whole, and I am made holy. I don’t have to live condemned, Jesus made a way. Jesus is the way. I’ll keep on praying because God not only hears me, he listens to me. He loves and cherishes me. My prayers matter. They have power. There is power in the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus, the devil flees. Moreover, nothing can separate me from the love of God. NOTHING!

So when the bitter feelings of unworthiness, condemnation and the likes start to creep in, instead of letting them weigh you down until you quit praying and move on to something else, declare the truth and focus on what God really says about you. How we feel won’t change His love, but His love can surely change how we feel! So that’s what I decide to look at and focus on today. What about you?

Remember, the devil doesn’t want you praying. When you pray he has to go! So, keep on praying, love. And remember, you are justified, your sins are washed away. And when you repent, and ask God to forgive you, He forgives and forgets. Pray, fight the good fight of faith, and remember, beautiful, God is with you whenever and wherever!

Prayer:

Father, I pray to you today that you may be with my sister, my brother, who is reading, wherever she or he is right now. I pray that you remove thoughts of condemnation and replace them with thoughts of love, and grace. May you reveal yourself to them a little more today. Give them a little more of you, Jesus. Give them strength to pray. Set a fire in their hearts for You. Father we love you and we thank you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
